Why several names to designate the same approach?
Because an approach that calls into question the very bases of thought in matters of nutrition and health is ipso facto declined in several dimensions.
Why the French title “Manger vrai” ?
Because the current diet is a way of deceiving the body. The purpose of culinary tricks is to make foods (or pseudo-foods) more attractive than nature intended. Pleasure then leads to consuming products that do not correspond to the real needs of the body, with consequences of all kinds of imbalances and diseases. Instinctotherapy thus appears as a process of truth which sets itself apart from the culinary “lie”.
Why the radical “instincto-”?
Because the mechanisms regulating food intake, which are manifested by variations in olfactory, gustatory and proprioceptive perceptions, are organized in such a way as to ensure optimal nutritional balance and the best conditions for survival. This brings us back to the concept of instinct,
Why “instinctive self-therapy”:
The instinct allows everyone to heal themselves by listening to their own instinct, and not by relying on the prescriptions of an external therapist. The advantage of this name is to underline that the instinct, in particular food, takes into account the reality of the data of the organism, and not of a diagnosis, unable to follow in real time the variations of the physiological state and psychic.
Why “instinctotherapy”:
Because the word is shorter and has imposed itself on the public over the years. Main disadvantages: it evokes therapy, while there is no question of making a diagnosis or prescribing treatment, the body indicating by itself the elements it needs to optimize its functions. The term “therapy” is reductive, because the medical aspect is only one consequence among many of the hypothesis of genetic maladjustment to culinary tricks.
Why “anopsology”:
In Greek, “opson” means “prepared meal” as opposed to raw food; “Logy” means speech and is used to refer to most sciences or theories.
“Anopsology” therefore means “science of phenomena observable outside of any culinary preparation” or, more generally, “outside of any artifice modifying the organoleptic or biochemical properties of food”.
The term was recommended to me by Professor and Dean Pierre Cornillot at a time when I was teaching instinctotherapy at the Faculty of Natural Medicine in Paris VIII. It corresponds much better to the essence of the process, the content of which is more general than simply therapeutic. It has the advantage of a homogeneous Greek etymology, while “instinctotherapy” appends a Latin prefix and a Greek suffix. I tried to introduce it in the 1980s, but it hasn’t had the impact I hoped for with the public and the media. It is reserved for specialists, denoting the theory of genetic adaptation to primitive feeding as opposed to the therapeutic aspect of feeding practice per se.
Why “instinctonutrition”:
Advised by Dr. Borie, a stomatologist interested in the process since the end of the 1980s, this name aims to avoid reduction to the simple therapeutic aspect. It is used quite often, emphasizing the dietetic and hedonic aspect of the practice regardless of any health concerns.
By instinctonutrition is meant a diet consisting exclusively of unprepared foods, therefore without cooking, mixtures, seasonings, dairy products and over-selected products, consumed spontaneously according to ordinary appetites. It differs from instinctotherapy by the fact that it does not insist on the rules guaranteeing the best possible listening of body signals, in particular on the olfactory selection and the analysis of flavors and their variations, or on the identification. the first signs of repletion.
It is quite possible to switch from instinctotherapy to instinctonutrition and vice versa depending on social or other requirements: sometimes, for example in the event of illness or discomfort, the strict rules of instinctotherapy can be applied, which will make it possible to obtain a precise regulation of the inflammatory tendency and will make it possible to neutralize the symptoms as quickly as possible, sometimes to a more flexible practice consisting simply of consuming only non-denatured foods, allowing the pleasure of the palate to act spontaneously.
