Famine, disease and war

According to the , population growth is the “major factor in increasing food needs”. A source of increasing pressure on natural resources that is difficult, expensive or slowly renewable, it must – according to the UN – be controlled to ensure durables development, which requires food security and political stability. Rapid stabilization of the world population is a prerequisite for durables food security

Let us try to represent what will happen once there is no more arable land to feed everyone. It is no longer a starved minority that will have to be kept on a leash, but the majority of the occupants of the planet… And when we don’t have anything to eat anymore, and some better lotted neighbors still eat at ease, what’s going to happen?

Will the best-off nations share their resources to reinvigorate those who might soon invade them? Will the most hidden remain there to consider others in the ecstasy of an accepted and blessed death of the Lord? Certainly not. Once the first phases of charity and solidarity have passed, it is of course the most animally facets of human beings that will take over.

Small-scale rapin shipments, which are still punished by law enforcement forces, will begin. Then in front of the suffering of their compatriots, the agents and soldiers will refuse to intervene, gnawed by the shame of forcing the least favoured to starve. In order to keep a high grip on citizens, governments will have to give in to the wills of the masses and try to seize by force the resources that other governments will deny them in order to protect their own rulers.

Meanwhile, undernutrition will progress deviously. We will have to invent substitutes for the missing foods, such as the wood sawdust that was put in the bread during the last war. With modern chemistry, we will probably find worse and more polluting. It will be increasingly difficult to resist the germs, which will spread even better as social disorder hinders hygiene measures. In many regions, the lack of drinking water will increase the number of cases of typhus, cholera and other plagues invading weakened organisms.

To save their nationals, and under pressure from the psychosis that will take over crowds, some governments will have no more recourse than to go to war, in order to obtain a minimum of food. Unfortunately, war is contagious. There are always friends to support you, or enemies to fight you. From close to close, one can expect the whole planet to simmer. Religious or political divisions adding to food injustices, waste of resources and plundering of the remaining lands will sign the picture…

A pessimistic picture, no doubt, but that there is nothing to exclude if we do not see the mentality changing in time. This is the logical and predictable course of increasing individual needs and ecological footprints, unstoppable by the forced path to progress and consumption.

No hope of stopping the infernal machine than a general awareness. There’s no other way.

But such an awareness is possible only if there is reason for it. Simply seeing a desperate situation is not enough. This can at most awaken some idealists, but at the same time the selfish and violent forces that sleep in others. Real awareness of the imminence of a disaster requires a clear vision of its causes.

Now, our scientists are unable to tell us what are the root causes, both of the advent of hyperconsumption and of the demographic explosion. Both events date back to about two millennia, with modern industrial progress as a symptom, or as a catalyst rather than as a cause of disease.

The challenge of human ecogenetics is to bring together non-conformist minds capable of fundamentally questioning the current system of consumption, proliferation and occultation that leads us to the shipwreck. The root causes of the process must be actively pursued.

The path of a vehicle is not changed without the control levers in hand, which give access to the most hidden parts of the steering system, engine, gearbox, lighting… These levers are in this case access to the fundamental mechanisms of the current evolution.

Once these mechanisms are known, we can on the one hand understand the exact reasons why humanity has started on a path without return, thereby changing attitudes, and above all know what to do to take the necessary turn on a large scale…
