Artifacts generated by our intelligence

The question may be surprising: man and his intelligence form a whole, stemming from the laws of evolution (or, for some, from the will of a Creator). Intelligence should therefore, like any innate organ or function, work for the good of the species and the environment that guarantees its survival, as is observed for instinct in animals in an ecosystem.

It is clear, however, that man can create, through his intelligence, all kinds of artifacts and new situations to which neither he nor his biotope are adapted. The accumulation of these artifacts can ultimately pose a real threat to all ecosystems and to itself. For example pesticides for agriculture, CFCs for our refrigerators, mercury for our teeth and gold…

Hence the following question: Is it the natural functioning of human psychism that leads to this contradiction with the laws of evolution, or rather some dysfunctions that it would then be necessary to define and explain?
