These artifacts

We are able to invent all kinds of artifacts, but do these artifacts correspond to the innate characteristics of our organisms? There’s no guarantee.

Noah, for example, invented wine; He did not imagine that alcohol consumption would produce thousands of years later a multitude of family dramas and fatal accidents on the roads. In the 16th century, Dr. Nicot imported the tobacco he had discovered among the Indians of America and received a glorious reward from the King of France; Two centuries later, cigarettes were manufactured industrially and were subject to a state monopoly; no one had asked about the body’s ability to cope with smoke, or about psychism in the face of nicotine; The dependence of billions of users has generated countless lung cancers.

The awareness of the existence of genetic programming and the limits of adaptability that it imposes on organisms could have curbed these inventions, or at least the enthusiasm that they gave rise to. It would have enabled their future victims to better understand what was happening to them and to take appropriate action without waiting for generations… Just as it is not surprising to see a petrol engine fail if fuel is put into the tank: each type of engine is built for a given fuel and if there has been a mistake, we know that it is urgent to empty the tank and return to the original fuel.

The same reasoning is valid for any past, present or future invention. It can be extended to any living creature, plant or animal, confronted with human inventions. It is every time natural laws, results of millions of years of evolution and genetic adaptation of species, that are transgressed.

Example: Pierre and Marie Curie discover radioactivity; the world immediately sees radium as a miracle remedy for all diseases; The holder of a double Nobel prize, badly irradiated, finally dies of leukemia; It is not known what became of the patients who administered radioactive eryxir at the same time; a century later, the atom industry infiltrates everywhere and the risks of accidents and nuclear wars threaten the entire planet.

More recently, poorly inspired engineers invent the mercury battery; After a few generations, this highly toxic metal is found in sea fish, marine mammals, and even in the blood of the Inuit, to the point of seriously compromising their health along with the ecological balance of the oceans. This is also the unconsciousness of the limits of the adaptability of the living in the face of a human invention, and the concealment of its possible consequences, which are responsible for the disaster.

The common denominator between these different examples lies in the absence of questions about the secondary consequences of inventions that fascinate us at first glance. And this question necessarily involves the question of genetic inadaptation to environmental conditions that did not exist in the original nature.

Thus, for every ecological (or pathological) problem we face, we have to ask ourselves:

  1. if it is the consequence of a human invention exceeding the ability to adapt living beings (from microbe to human being).
  2. What are the reasons why men made and spread this invention: was it a true or false need?
  3. What are the mechanisms that determine our dependence on this invention?
  4. why inventors and users of the invention were unable to take into account its harmful effects, either on themselves or on the environment.

These questions ultimately refer to the functioning of human psychism. Here, too, we must distinguish between a normal part, consistent with the genetic programming of our nervous system, and possible dysfunctions. The latter, even if they seem to us anodized because commonly widespread, could be at the origin of the harmful inventions or of the craze-dependence they provoke. The final step then consists in clearly identifying and formulating the causes of these malfunctions. It becomes possible to control or prevent them.

It is by going back to the primary source of psycho-affective disorders from which ecological disorders have arisen that we can permanently correct the behaviors induced by our form of civilization. In other words: to evolve our culture towards a progenetic culture, in line with our innate potential and those of other players in the planetary ecosystem.
