Of man’s natural instincts or deviation from his instincts

What is attributed to the unprecedented demographic explosion that we are witnessing powerless?

To the progress of medicine. The draconian drop in infant mortality. Increased life expectancy. Food abundance. In the absence of predators. To the greatest safety, which pushes families to procreate. A desire to live and give life. Inadequate contraceptives. Perhaps at the “Crow and multiply” of Genesis…

These factors certainly play a role. Yet one never thinks of anything of any beast: that the number of births depends directly on how to live sexuality.

Our culture sends back the mythical image of something that does not work as it should between Adam and Eve, that is, between man and woman. So what can the famous apple that the snake made them chew and that triggered all the misfortunes of the world? Unless we simply reject the myth, there is one point that should be clarified. All the more so as in our time, the Believe and multiply is more a threat to the planet than a divine order.

The very fact that we need contraceptives to maintain an acceptable family balance raises questions. Comparison with the animal also: heat or gut refers to the period of fertilization of the female, and there is no sexual act outside these periods. The sexuality of the animal is entirely dependants on the reproduction of the species. The only exception is the bonobos, who practice sexuality at all, but nevertheless maintain colonies perfectly adapted to their environment. Regulation that operates without famines or premature deaths, and until further notice without resorting to contraceptive methods…

Would the human being be a kind of bonobo who would have lost on the path of evolution the ability to spontaneously control its proliferation? Or would that capacity have never existed in man? There are reasons to think the opposite: some Indian tribes of America were known to adjust the number of children to the hunting capacity of the head of the family, also without resorting to condoms or continence or other deliberate birth control.

In any case, the question arises: if there is something that does not work in sexuality since Adam and Eve, of two lunar things. Or human beings carry in them the germ of uncontrolled proliferation, and the only solution is a voluntary limitation of fertilization. Or this situation comes from a disorder that would have settled in our way of practicing sexuality. Perhaps an effect of the exciting food present on the urgency of our sexual needs. Or the loss of “fundamental bisexuality”, or “polymorphic” practices, to take Freud’s terms, which would give the “normal coitus” a preponderance that he did not actually have in our Bonobo cousins…

To meditate…
