Without going as far as Lovelock, who sees the planet as a living being in its own right, we must consider the global ecosystem as a whole when it comes to the impact of human activities on the biosphere. The level of the different pollution classes and the number of humans are now so high that the entire planet is ultimately affected by human artifacts, even if they seem anodizing at the individual scale.

The situation has become even worse with globalization, which, for example, is spreading the use of plastic bags to growing populations. Similarly for pesticide treatments, extraction of minerals, oil, methane, use of refrigerators, etc., not to mention deforestation and soil erosion: never has degradation gone so fast. They will only accelerate with the contamination of developing countries by our Western lifestyles.

It is no longer local ecosystems that are at risk, but indeed the planetary ecosystem, with incalculable consequences for the future of future generations and all life on Earth…
