The requirements of the natural environment

Living organisms all need specific conditions to develop properly. Each species needs a particular food palette, some require a large food range, such as chimpanzees, others rely on a unique food, such as koala, which digests only shoots of certain varieties of eucalyptus. Some organisms can feed on wood, such as larvae of some beetles, while lichens are content with rock.

These specificities depend on the metabolic characteristics of each species, which, like other traits, are mainly determined by de-la-genetique and its long evolutionary past. Each adapted to a certain set of nutrients. It is clear that neither stone nor wood nor even the eucalyptus are foods that meet the requirements of our human assimilation system…

Digestive enzymes are not capable of transforming all existing food molecules. In order for the energy balance of assimilation to remain positive (i.e. if the body does not lose more energy to digest than the energy it removes from its food), the proportion of equivalent molecules must exceed a certain limit. Imposing food on an organism for which it is not programmed by its genome can have all sorts of disastrous consequences, from digestive difficulty to disease and death.

Ecological balance is optimal when all species in the biotope find the food that is best suited to them. Biodiversity is not an ethical or aesthetic notion: the presence of a sufficient variety of living beings feeding on one another is indispensable if the environment is to maintain its harmony and integrity. Climate accidents, logging, monocultures can damage an ecosystem very irreversibly.

The human species is unfortunately the main responsible for this type of road accidents. It will soon have destroyed the primitive ecological balance on all the surface of the planet, unless a healthy brake is given to save the remains. The question to be asked before looking for substantive solutions is what are les-facteurs-psychiques behind this situation. Why do the demands of the natural environment occupy so little place in human consciousness? Is this due to the innate characteristics of human nature, or on the contrary to certain crop-induced distortions or other disturbance factors?

Once these causes are better known, a universal awareness will be possible, each one understanding in clear and simple terms the reasons that push men to put their own demands ahead of the demands of the natural environment, and to forget that it is the survival of the species and its biotope. Let us hope that human ecogenetics will be able to point the finger at the root causes of this sinister evolution, which gradually makes all natural beauties and all sources of life disappear…
