Calculation is difficult. Of course, we can only give orders of magnitude. Starting from the figures of the QUID 2001, that is, once the planet for 700 million inhabitants at the European standings, we actually arrive at 10 planets for the 7 billion humans that currently inhabit the globe.

It is also necessary to take into account the rapid increase in the world’s population, which could largely compensate for environmental efforts. The contribution of poor countries will be particularly heavy: to disproportionate fertility rates (up to 7 children per woman!) will add the decrease in infant mortality and the increase in life expectancy. We are far from stabilizing the population expected by the most optimistic demographers.

There is therefore no doubt that the planet will be subject to dramatic overexploitation if measures to limit birth rates are not taken as soon as possible. However, coercive measures are unthinkable. The only formula likely to pass would be to discover the mechanisms for regulating the frequency of fertilization. And these mechanisms necessarily involve the psychosexual functioning of individuals, which itself depends on cultural factors.

In other words, the planet is directly threatened by the sexual system generated by our culture. It is on this side that we must dig into the causes of excessive fertility, or ways to limit fertility without creating unbearable frustration.
