Intimately related to the functioning of human psychism

Our representations, reasoning and decisions are the basis of all our behaviour. Our positions depend directly on the functioning of our psyche, especially our psycho-affective state. Our inclinations, our passions, our detestations, our anxieties largely determine our choices. Social thought is far from coincident with logical thought, and it was probably even more true at the time when the foundations of our culture were laid, before rationalism took over religious or other beliefs.

For example, the way in which “progress” is conceived is directly related to a need for security, a tendency to escape effort, a playful predisposition, a cult of performance, a spirit of competition, and many other aspects of our inner world. But our inclinations are largely governed by thought and emotion, most often unconsciously. If there is a change in this internal state, under the influence of any causes, and if this change affects all members of the human community, especially if the process is not verbalized, it inevitably results in a shift in population-level trends. Such changes eventually become part of habits, judgments, beliefs, norms, i.e. by transforming culture.

These changes are slowly occurring, and are passed on to the younger generations in the form of evidence, the course of history as a whole is changing without anyone seeing. The historians themselves view transformations as a form of evolution, linked to the nature of things, without worrying about what factors of functional disorders of psychism might explain them.

In fact, the whole of humanity is found in a drifting boat, without realizing that underwater currents cause it to change course and insidiously lead to the shipwreck. This is a very difficult research work to do: it is not a question of taking into account the factors that one knows, but of first looking at what factors are still unknown or hidden that must be taken into account… It is to this delicate and essential task that human ecogenetics intends to devote its efforts…
