L’ ecological borrowing
The concept was defined by Balois Mathis Wackernagel and his team about fifteen years ago in California. “Ecological footprint” refers to all the irreversible traces a population leaves in its biotope. Further information: >>>
The ecological footprint is therefore defined in terms of environmental biocapacity, in all the different areas of environmental damage. In order for an ecosystem to remain in equilibrium, the footprint left must be zero or very low, i.e., the removals and removals can be compensated and absorbed as they occur, without any accumulation or degradation.
We immediately see that this is not the case of the ecological footprint left by humanity: between land and water pollution, the hole in the ozone layer, deforestation, erosion, desertification, greenhouse gases, loss of biodiversity and other signatures of human activities, we live at the expense of the planet without giving it time to recover.
The ecological footprint of our civilization gets worse every day. Injuries to nature can only increase and multiply at an increasing rate, partly due to the contamination of developing countries by the consumerism virus and partly due to population growth.
The aim of human ecogenetics is to act on both sides: to analyse and denounce the psychological (or psychopathological) factors that have made our society evolve towards harmful consumption, and even more so the factors that cause excessive birth rates as resistance to any attempt to reduce the number of births.
