The psychic factors
They are indeed psychological factors that make addiction a way of life.
A fundamental question arises in this regard: can artefacts harmful to the environment be indispensable, in terms of survival or happiness, to the human being? We would be in a sort of stalemate of evolution if our basic needs, including that of persevering the species, were in contradiction with the survival of the environment on which our own survival depends. Humanity would by nature be doomed to go towards self-destruction…
Even if this hypothesis cannot be ruled out, we must consider the opposite hypothesis: the one which would like it to be disorders of human behaviour which one finds at the origin of this contradiction. Individuals, under certain cultural norms or constraints, or other disruptive factors, would be led to eco-suicidal choices and actions.
Human ecogenetics must therefore not only shed light on the psychic factors that may be at the root of the current environmental situation, but also look for the root causes that have made culture and man what remains of it today. This puts the problem of education at the forefront, not only that the emphasis on early education in ecology should be strengthened, but above all that of education for errors that develop in individuals psychic structures favouring anti-ecological choices.
Such a challenge does not occur without tears and gnashing of teeth. Yet it is the only way to hope for a fundamental solution to the problem of man and the planet.
