The unconscious engines

Our conscious motions seem to us to be decisive. We feel that we can freely decide our destiny, our actions, our choices. It takes a real work of inner exploration to see that the unconscious underlies all our psychic activity, and even very widely our free will. It is in these inaccessible areas that the often unfavorable impulses, the roots of greed and selfishness, the anxieties, disgusts, the appetites of all kinds that draw the strings of our conscious life are nested.

Human psychism, such as that of the animal but at a much higher level of complexity, is organised in such a way as to function in a way adapted to the material and social environment. Whenever a clash, a conflict, a disappointment occurs, the causes of disharmony must be sought in themselves. This is obviously possible only through a systematic exploration of our unconscious motions. Hence the close link between human ecogenetics and psychoanalysis.

It is in the unconscious that all the psychological distortions induced from an early age by education, school and social constraints, painful events are included. Injuries and trauma most often express themselves very indirectly, through all kinds of temporal, circumstantial or symbolic shifts. It is not easy to establish links with the behavioural alterations resulting from this. Analysis is even more difficult when it comes to widespread distortion. Behavioural alterations eventually become part of morals and no one is worried.

The anti-ecological activities that have multiplied in our form of civilization are undoubtedly in relation to unconscious motions that push us to seek comfort, advantage, ease, security, possession, power. The conscious motions are known to all, but nothing has helped to solve the problem. If there remains an area where darkness still reigns, and where all kinds of behavioral drifting disorders can be hidden, it is well unconscious. It’s up to us to learn not to be slaves or victims…
