Really reduce nuisances
Between the fine speeches of politicians and the reality of the facts, the gap is great.
About ten years ago, the scarcity of oil and the increase in the price of the barrel had prompted car manufacturers to accelerate the development of electric vehicles. California intended to pioneer the development of the hydrogen industry. Many countries were considering drastic measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. What are the concrete results of these beautiful flights?
CO2 emissions broke their record in 2011. According to the International Energy Agency, the increase in world oil demand was 1.7% in 2010, with a demand of 87.4 million barrels per day (Mbj), or 1000 barrels per second! Or 10 million tons a day. It is estimated that consumption will double by 2050…
The world’s population consumes between 3 and 4000 billion cubic metres of natural gas each year, and this will only increase. Many countries focus on methane production from methane hydrate retained under permafrost or under the seabed, which will take over with a stock 100 times higher than the natural gas stock. What makes global warming worse over a century…
Similarly in other areas of pollution. Only a small percentage of bee colonies remain in many countries and insecticides that attack the nervous system of insects continue to be placed on the market while deceiving consumers about their actual nuisances…
For now, men are more thirsty for money, comfort, power, than for respect for nature, its beauties and goodness, or even, than for hope of survival for future generations. Technological and industrial developments are a result of these ubiquitous appetites and resist all the efforts that sensitized environments can make to curb or reverse the movement. The words of Cousteau, soon half a century old, remain but a pious and distant wish, serving more as an incentive for ecologists than as an engine for concrete measures. You don’t drink a donkey that doesn’t thirst…
The path proposed by human ecogenetics is to seek out why donkeys do not have the thirst that would allow them to see reality in the face. Why do we a priori feel that trouble will be for others or for a distant future that does not concern us, when they are patent? That the disaster is already happening before us? Why has humanity lost this spiritual dimension that led old societies to respect nature and protect their resources?
We are agitated by a fever of materialistic illusions, victims of a forward flight such that only growth, so the possession of ever more sophisticated, luxurious and dazzling objects of technologie, can still give us the impression of existence. It is these psychological forces, mostly unconscious, that systematically put the best resolutions in check and empty ecological awareness of their content.
The only way to fight against forces of this nature and power is to remove their origins, in order to act at the level of the root causes. An awareness has any other effect when it integrates the roots of the phenomenon to which one is a victim. Knowing that our behaviour has such or such an impact on the environment is one thing. But a clearer perception of the deep mechanisms of which we are toys will hopefully make us able and willing to deliver worthy of what a human being should be.
