We already have a number of foretaste of what could remain green areas of herb, simmering forest, or undulating cereal blondes if the exponential population does not know a rapid point of inflection…

First glance, when we waste kerosene to rise to a few kilometers of altitude in the name of business or tourism: the surface of the ground is cut into small squares, rectangles, triangles and trapezes that make us aware of the exploitation of resources. The landscape is completely fragmented, on gigantic surfaces. Knowing that intensive crops will eventually end with soil erosion, groundwater drying and desertification, we can already get a little idea of the future of the humus.

The rate of deforestation is such that in a few decades there will be nothing left of most rainforests. The acquisition of underdeveloped areas, with the resulting comfort and standing requirements, will not fail to intensify the exploitation of wood, or the replacement of forests with intensive crops. Population growth can only exacerbate the process.

The increasing emissions of CO2, despite all the efforts undertaken, promise us a global warming whose consequences already appear in the form of massive melting of polar ice and glaciers, unprecedented hurricanes, floods where there is too much water, droughts in arid regions, irreversible loss of biodiversity. So overall decrease in resources, and increased exploitation pressure on areas still spared.

We are already there, when there are only a few billion individuals who are sufficiently wealthy to be able to pollute seriously. What about when more than ten billion people in turn cross the poverty line into the hallucinogenic round of consumerism?

It will only take a few decades or generations for what remains of the planet to be definitely peeled and mowed. Unless humanity decides by miracle not to multiply to goo…
