One can distinguish in the will a “primary will” which exceeds the individual himself from the fact that it emerges from unconscious contents, and a “voluntary will” taken over from the previous one by the mind or generated by elements contrary to nature.

The deliberate will can either oppose natural laws or respect them. It can oppose the primary will, resulting in internal conflicts. The will actually intervenes in the continuation of the urge and desire. The primary will is the realization force associated with the impulse, it corresponds to the natural potential of the human being. While deliberate or secondary will tends to realize desire and knows the same hazards. It can be influenced by culture, either through the deformations of desire, or directly by thought patterns, anxieties or other repressed contents.

The solution to the ecological impasse will go both through the universal will to safeguard the planet, in accordance with the fundamental drive to preserve the environment. And by questioning voluntary actions that are not in line with the genetic potential of human beings or biotope in general.

It is at this price that we can avoid the permanent conflict between the desire to protect the environment and the egocentric wills that make us slaves to consumerism. For example, the formidable desire for gain that inspires gas extraction magnates when they invest in megastructures, as well as the submission of consumers who become impenitent financiers, could be addressed by some malfunctions that deserve to be analysed with maximum objectivity…
